Chris Beckwith - 26 Whatever’s in aid of The Joanna Project

Bridge Church member and Elder, Chris Beckwith has decided to put his time to good use during the lockdown period and raise funds for the Joanna Project.

Chris said “Because of the present situation it is likely that the Joanna Project, the charity currently supported by the Bridge Church, could lose out as our annual Mothers Day Teas and Teas on the Lawn have had to be cancelled plus other events that were still being planned.

The cancelled London Marathon (which Chris was NOT going to take part in), was to take place on Sunday the 26th April, and the vast fund raising event suggested that those who had entered continue their fund raising at home focusing on '26 whatevers’.

This made me think about our church charity, The Joanna Project, this very local charity, still needs our support so it is my intention to do a sponsored exercise bike ride covering 26 miles, within 1hr 45mins, each day for 7 days starting on Sunday 26th April. So with the money you didn’t spend at the Mothers Day Tea and Teas on the Lawn please sponsor me.”

The Joanna Project said “In response to the current Covid-19 crisis, Joanna Project remains open to support women with multiple disadvantages who are in need.  Most of the women we work with have poor health and are highly at risk so we are committed to doing all we can to help keep them safe and well.

We have closed our drop-in but are very busy with delivering supplies and medication to women in the community, helping them to receive medical and addiction interventions, accessing suitable accommodation and much more.  Our evening outreach continues on a very reduced team as we are currently not using volunteers to ensure their safety.

We greatly appreciate your support at this time, we understand that it is a difficult time financially for many, but if you are able to give, even a small amount would make a real difference.”

Chris - ready for action whatever the weather!!
